My response to the Colorado theater shootings:
As much a part of the human spirit as the impulse to kill is the desire to not allow oneself to be terrorized psychologically. People are basically stubborn and, after all the dark and lurid blood-soaked episodes in American history and of course the numerous violent, fatal chapters of contemporary world society, people are a mix of numbed, resigned and only rarely completely shocked when murderous incidents like this take place.
We've pretty much seen or heard it all, we're post-everything-evil-&-unspeakable-imaginable--there is no real innocence about bloody murder anymore, we're largely inured to it all. Our psyches are used to this kind of madness, we're desensitized overall, at least as observers or spectators. There's so many monstrous, lethal and/or heinous tragedies, disasters, accidents, slayings, butcherings, brutalizations, victimizations that have happened and been reported in the media so frequently and so sensationally for so many years in America and everywhere else in the world, esp. the 3rd world for anybody who cares to pay attention.
As I type this, godawful grim, ghastly nightmares are going down in the abject hellholes and seedy ghettoes of planet Earth: victims young and old are being exploited, raped, sodomized, assaulted, beaten, bludgeoned, strangled, tortured, knifed, machine-gunned, decapitated, gutted, skinned, slaughtered, psychologically tormented in sickeningly savage, cruel and sadistic ways as unfortunates exposed to barbaric ethnic cleansing or dehumanizing sex slavery or violent hate crimes or brutal wars or destructive uprisings, etc. This happens every single day. The Colorado incident was terrible, but it occupies not a top spot in the virtually unending litany of horrendous crimes and harrowing evil deeds ever committed.
Sure, there is risk everywhere, and anywhere at any time gruesome, devastating, deadly violence may erupt. There are many psychopaths and sociopaths and would-be mass murderers and cravers of infamy out there lurking and hiding and plotting hellacious mayhem, and waiting for the right time to strike at the unsuspecting, and no place is sacred anymore. When you step out the door, in fact even if you never step out of the door at all, you are surrounded by a world of vulnerability to hair-raising mortal dangers.
Still, human life and our diversions from the insanity and animality must go on. We can't spend every waking moment contemplating and fearing death and destruction at the hands of detached, soulless killers. Stay alert, be smart, protect yourself, yet enjoy every unpromised day you get to stay alive and enjoy a flick now and then, pursue your interests or whatever you do that gets you through another day.
Life is short, abounding in the sinister, and overwhelmingly brutish. Even if we don't get blown up or stabbed and/or shot to death or otherwise dispatched/wiped out prematurely somewhere in America. Carpe diem!
Stay vigilant my friends!

Well Jeebus, that was cheery. Though I essentially agree with you. Well done, sir.![shocked](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/shocked.4f86e9f2d588.gif)
