Okay, okay. I'll post on a good day rather than a bad one. But then again I suppose its all perspective and which side I choose to see at the moment.
So pretty much I'm about as dorky as they get. One of the big highlights of my week is game night. No I hate sports. I'm talking about paper and pencil and dice. If you're still confused hopefully the terms "dungeons and dragons" clears it up. Its not actually D&D we play though. Its a system a good friend of mine made up. He's running a game where we're all in some fucked up future with super powers. I'm running a game that takes place in the Riftwar book series by Raymond E. Feist. Its a lot of fun. We goof off a lot though. Its more of a hang out night than anything. Usually its six hours long and half that time is spent making dirty jokes and insults.
One of the other highlights of my week is Wednesday. Because Wednesday is the day new comics arrive. I am very much addicted. I will argue you to the ground that the comic is one of our most beautiful forms of art. Especially with all the restrictions being lifted. Non-comic readers always thinks of tights when they think of comics and the do-gooder stereotype. It just is incorrect anymore. Comic books are like any book or movie though. You have to see who's creating it. Some great writers would be Mark Millar, Warren Ellis, and Brian Bendis. Most of the stuff you pick up by those names will be incredibly entertaining. Not all, but most. And artist wise of course Alex Ross would be the number one recommeded. Reading any of the series that he has painted is amazing.
Let's do an example. The Ultimates is a modern re-creation of the Marvel super hero team the Avengers. It has charactes like Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk. Now keep in mind we're talking about the Ultimates. First off, the Hulk eats people and generally kills close to 1000 people, including children, during his rampages. Second off, Tony Stark gets smashed before getting in his Iron Man suit. Third off the government runs the team. They actually coin the phrase "persons of mass destruction" and make national treaties not to use them in world wars. And then of course the US immediately dispatches their team to the Middle East. Thor is a major Hippie who might be completely insane. He is anti-corporate and only helps out the team in major emergencies. Captain America is very much the 40's soldier. He gets upset at people making out in the streets and people cussing in movies. Oh and the team is run by Nick Fury, who may as well be a bald Samuel L. Jackson with an eyepatch. Oh and Hank Pym, the giant man or ant man, beats his wife. Who in turn beats him with a phone.
Yeah, thats' a bit too much dorkdom for one post so I'll stop there.
