Marzipan! That's the word of the day!
Tomorrow is my mom's birthday so I decided to bake her a cake. I didn't want to do the same old thing as every year so I looked online at some cake recipes that might be worth trying. I was at first tempted to make her a swedish princess cake, but as pretty as I thought it would turn out, I have no idea if anyone would like it - never actually tried it myself. The smooth marzipan outside was what originally drew me towards the princess cake so I searched for other cakes with the same frosting and then from there decided to make my own.
Let me tell you, if I had found store bought marzipan anywhere locally, I would have bought it no matter how expensive it was. Making it myself was an entire process in itself. I spent all freaking day on that cake and it still didn't come out exactly as I was planning. Of course I do have to consider that I found and used the one marzipan recipe that allows for you to use it the same day it's made - rather that keeping it refrigerated at least over night - and of course it was my first attempt at making something so complicated.

The design is a little uncreative but I already had my hands full with just making the stuff. Next cake I make will be tons prettier

That cake looks pretty damn good considering what it started out looking like in that first picture.
