So, many of you probably considered me dead, luckily I'm not. Its just been a crazy year, one I wont forget any time soon. So, where do I start.
Well, first I finally got the opportunity I had been looking for and started working in game development. There's something important to note here and it's basically that here in Colombia Game development isn't that big, at most mobile games are produced here. But, the opportunity I got was far better than working on a mobile game, since the studio I'm working for is doing outsourcing work for ARK: Survival Evolved. So if you ever play it, just remember, I rigged the weapons and human characters, and skinned all those damn saddles that let you ride dinosaurs every where! It's been a unique opportunity, it's made my portfolio ten times better and made me realize game development is the career I want to pursue. I also made a website (sadly no ARK work yet on display).
Probably the most important part of 2015 was that I proposed to my girlfriend on February! That's right ladies and gents, this pale bearded guy will be going off the market :P. I'm so happy, and can't wait to finally get our life started. Funny thing, she almost fainted when I pulled out the ring, and we were in the middle of a park, would of been quite a story for the ages. It's curious how things change, when we first started dating (over 6 years ago) if either of us would even mention something such as marriage it would just send shivers down our spine, but now a days it's something we're both looking forward to, it makes me happy.
Last but not least, I was finally able to go to this little event in Anaheim, California called Blizzcon! My friends form the guild I've been raiding with (some of those friends actually date back form like 8 years ago) made a go fund me so they could gather funds for the plane ticket and the event ticket. So last November I had one of the greatest trips of my life! I finally got to meet some of my best friends in person (we'd been raiding for 8 years together but never once been able to meet IRL), got to meet a ton of new friends, got my demo reel reviewed by a blizzard recruiter which gave me some really good pointers, and just had a blast not only in blizzcon but also in California. There's no way I can thank them enough for what they did, but it's a memory I will never forget.
So, those were the highlights for 2015, but what does 2016 have in store for us?
I have some plans in store, hopefully they can come together. The main one is getting a job up in the states so I can move back. If I want to keep working in video game development, it's going to be way better to do it from there, I know there's a bigger offer of workers, but there's also more offers in job positions, be it in house or freelance (though I suck at getting jobs as a freelance :P).
So, how was every ones 2015, and what are your hopes and plans for 2016?
Hope every one has an amazing new year, I for one will be cooking some salmon and having a chill new years eve.
