For those that aren't in SGUK, the members are doing a little FAQ about themselves so people can get to know them better/stop asking them all the same bloody questions as everyone else. So here's mine
.and as noone has actually asked me anything for years, I've just nicked questions from other peoples blogs.fanks.
So who the hell are you?
I'm Munch. I've been Munch for years, even before SG. People I've never met before have shouted "Munch" at me across various pubs and venues over the years, cos when I was dead active on SG back in the day, I was kinda famous (infamous). It was very unnerving.
Why Munch?
The old singer in my first band back in the late 80s christened me that, cos I'm a shortarse. Shes not called me anything else since. And neither has anyone else from that period. I reverted back to Tony for a while, and then became Munch with a vengeance once I joined SG. I kinda back to being known as Tony again.
So how long have you been a member?
5 long years!!
But I've never heard of you?
Probably cos you're new, and far more active on here than I am now. I had a bad year last year, and kinda gave up on a lot of stuff - esp SG, and going to meets, and internet things in general - while I sorted my life out. Then this year I joined a band, and was too busy to get back into it. And when you stay away, things move on bloody quickly in internet land.
I sometimes feel I don't really belong here anymore - I feel a bit out of kilter with a lot of people that I used to see back in the day, however, I do still have a few really close friends that I see off SG fairly regularly, and that's ace.
So you play in a band?
Yeah, more about that later
Why are you still here?
I joined cos of the boobies and the tattoos. I stayed because of the community, and because, back in 2003, I met an awesome bunch of alternative people that quickly became very close friends at a time when I needed to know more alternative people. Alas, most of these early members have now left. I'd like to try and meet some new people now I've been out of the loop for a while, and I still enjoy the boobies from time to time.
So how come you weren't at the last meet I went to?
The last meet I went to before I kinda dropped out was the SG Bowling and Karaoke in April 07. The next meet I managed to go to properly was the Monopoly Pub Crawl last month. Before Apr 07, I could have been classed as of the "Core Members" . Now I'm barely a member!
As I said, for a while I had a lot of issues that needed sorting, then because the band kinda took off, I couldn't fit in keeping up with everything.
I may well be around a little more from now on though.
So you play in a band?
Yes, I play guitar and shout in a fast shouty punk band called THE SMALL MERCIES, which I joined at the tail end of 07, after not being in a band for 12 years. It has been both an amazing and excrutiating experience. So much so, we'll prob be ending soon and I'll be starting a new band, which I can't wait for everyone to hear.
What's it like being that small?
Sometimes its awesome, sometimes it sucks. It sucks when I can't get clothes to fit me. But it awesome when I'm photographed with some lovely young lady and my head comes up to her boobs.
For evidence, look at every SG Meet photoset from Nov 03 to Apr 07.
It also sucks sometimes when I go out with a very tall lady. As much as I love tall girls, I can't help feeling like their stroppy kid brother when I'm with them. So give me a nice small girlie from now onpref one that likes short tattooed punk blokes!
So you have tattoos?
Another thing about being small is you can get filled up with ink pretty quickly. I was a late starter with the tattoo thing, something I'm very pleased about (I never did get that tribal piece I wanted thank fuck), but I've made up for lost time.
Have you ever met the Legendary Traumatron?
Yes I have. I first met him in Jan 04 at The Ship in Wardour Street. He said "oh. You're Munch. Aren't you supposed to be handing out Vol-Au-Vents or something?"
To which I replied:
"Vol-Au-Vents? Fuck that shit! That shits off!" and walked away.
So how punk are you?
Punk enough. Although I don't generally look like a typical "punk", that's never been the point for me. Its always been about thinking for yourself and making your own mind up about stuff, and not being a fucking sheep. Oh and shaving your head off and wearing shoes with huge soles on 'em.
I also get ripped to shit by Doplex about my taste in music
But how can you be punk when you like Dido?
Yes, and Girls Aloud, Steps, Kylie and Abba. And Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, The Who and AC/DC. That's punk rock right there, motherfucker!
Who is your favourite Suicide Girl, and why?
As you can see from my faves, its Holly. I met her in San Francisco in 05 working as a bar-lady at Thee Parkside, and we stayed in touch. I met up with her again last year, and she absolutely made our holiday, from supplying us with cheap breakfasts, taking me to baseball, getting me tattoos for cheap, and dragging us around every awesome dive bar she could, getting us very drunk indeed.
If you met her, you'd know why shes my fave. Shes hot, down to earth, kinda crazy, and one of the nicest and geniune people I've ever met. Plus she has this awesome hoarse-an-husky voice. And loads of mental tattoos.
thanks all i got people!
