pretty much a lack of things to say at the moment...been rehearsing as usual, thats going well. i've also taken on the role of Heroic Doses drum roadie and merch seller, which has kinda been fun...although really, all that means is, i help Sarah out loading her drumkit in and out of the venue, and i sit behind the merch desk when the others don't want to.
but its been fun anyway. summat different!
saw the film "AMERICAN HARDCORE" this week, which was pretty good. lots of great footage of Black Flag and Circle Jerks and Minor Threat, and interviews with Rollins, Ian Mckaye and Keith Morris, among others. it basically covered the US hardcore scene from 1980 - 1986. disinct lack of Dead Kennedys though which was a shame, and far too many hardcore bands that just sounded the same...but it was cool anyway, an i recommend seeing it.
not that i'm a fan of violence, but this footage of Rollins smacking some twat made me chuckle...guy deserved it maybe?

anyway...wanted to share some other stuff with you. last year i linked up a bunch of bands that people may or may not have heard of before, and who i'd kinda come across on MySpace (with the help of my partner-in-crime). so i'm gonna do it again.
all you people into shouty punk stuff...go check these bands out.
all you Thermals fans...maybe not your thing...
SHOT BAKER - Chicago based, gruff punk rock with killer tunes. i can hear bit of Bad Religion, Face To Face and Naked Raygun in there i reckon. my bandmates put me onto these guys, and i love it. the album is awesome. its so good i even bought a bunch of copies for some mates, who also love em too.
HEROIC DOSES - ok, this is a bit of a cheat cos its my drummers other band, but i absolutely love these guys too. its kinda fast melodic hardcore with lots of WOAHS and shouty backing vocals. they are nice an sloppy too, which only adds to their charm. fab live though. they make me grin like an idiot.
BORN TO LOSE - recommended by Jackie, cos shes knows what i like, these guys blew my head off when i heard the new album.
on first listen its very much your basic loud punk rocknroll, like The Bones or Riverboat Gamblers. But ithink these guys are a little bit different to that. the singer is definately not a rocknroll singer, and lyrically they are not a rock an roll band. its almost like a "street punk" band doing rocknroll punk..its a mad mix, but it really works for me. gutted i missed them in Brixton last month!
EVERYBODY OUT! - its Sweeney from Dead Pets and Rick Barton from Dropkick Murphys. thats all you need to know, pretty much explains what they sound like straight away. love it!
LATTERMAN - "punk band from New York". I dunno how to describe these guys. its kinda shouty, kinda off kilter stuff, but really manic, and really tuneful. s'different innit. apparently amazing live too.
DAUNTLESS ELITE - these guys don;t have a myspace page, cos they hate it. so you'll have to trawl through their site to hear their stuff. seen em a couple times live now, and they're ace. shouty full on melodic hardcore. very english. i need to buy the album. excellent stuff.
hope you find summat in there you like....

i hope everyone has a great weekend. i'm off to be "drum roadie and merch guy" again for my new favourite band, and i'm quite looking forward to it. i've really enjoyed hanging out with my new bandmate and her boyfriend, they're ace people.
i'm also getting to meet up with a couple of mates i haven't seen since my birthday, which is gonna be cool.
in the meantime - HERES OUR SINGER AD - as before, if anyone knows of anybody that'd be interested in this, please pass on our details.
