new week, another new journal...
last week was a busy one.
on Wednesday i went and saw THE DAMNED play the 100 Club in Oxford St. this was a special 30 year anniversary show, because the 100 Club was where they played their first gig, supporting the Pistols back in 1976.
The Damned were the 2nd punk band i ever saw (The Banshees being the first), way back in 1985, and although i saw them a lot around that time, i hadn't seen them much in the intervening years till about 2 years ago. and considering they don't have Rat Scabies with em anymore, they are still fucking amazing live. and what a back catalogue to pull a set from!!
The gig was awesome though - it was full of old farts (like me) and some kindly old punk rocker let me stand in front of him at the barrier in front of The Captain. honestly, i felt like a teenager!
Unfortunately, i still wasn't feeling so great from my dodgy ear - so i sloped off when the encores started. and annoyingly enough, missed "Eloise", "Love Song" and "Stretcher Case" - three of my fave Damned songs. ARGH!
Thursday, i went over to Kingston to catch the VOODOO GLOW SKULLS with Carmel Tony and Chris. made a change going to a nice local gig, and i love The Peel as a venue. was really looking forward to seeing VGS in a venue this size.
Had a great time. VGS were excellent as always, and we had the added bonus of a decent support from GROWN AT HOME, who we all really enjoyed too.
Unfortunately, some wanker had to go and ruin everything by THROWING UP OVER MY FUCKING LEGS!!!
Yeah that was nice...and smelly. Luckily it was more spray than chunks, as it seemed to be mainly made up of beer. but whatever. nice to know kids still can't hold their drinks these days.
Anyway....about halfway through the evening, something hit me, and totally freaked me out. It suddenly occured to me that one day, probably fairly soon, that i could be playing this exact same venue, in front of god knows who, in a three piece punk band!
I've never been freaked out by playing live EVER - but the thought of playing a gig with people I know in the audience watching me was really doing my head in!! the stupid thing is...i really want these people to be there. Its never worried me before - dunno why it freaked me out this time.
Maybe because i've not set foot on stage in 12 years...and being in previous bands with more than three members, i always had someone to hide behind if required!
But whatever...I'm sure everything will be ok. Sarahs enthusiasm for this new band is INSANE. shes already looking at gigs and attemoting to book a mini-tour for August!!
Hold yer horses luv - we ain't got any songs yet!!
its all good though. Looking forward to the next rehearsal.
and one final thing - if anyone was wondering, my upgrade at work finally came through this month. my pay packet looked rather nice this month, what with the rise AND last weekends overtime. NICE!
anyway...thats enough for this week. see some of you lot at the weekend....
