I am a gonner tomorrow, from work that it is!
So here is the follow up.
I am a contractor at HP here in San Diego. I am an experienced System Administrator in large enterprise enviroments. For me to even talk to you (Assuming your a company) you have to pay me big money. I have invested years of my life into my craft, so I expect to be paid. And don't think you can get some dude from India to replace me either. I am a professional in a industry that requires dedication to the craft.
So I get hired at HP to run some systems (14 in all, half not even used). I expect things to get more exciting, but has not. So the company see's they have a guy making 66.5K a year sitting there doing a job that someone making 48K could do. In other words, I got moved into a postition that I am over qualified for, but I still get the money. So 9 months later, the company figures this out and guess what? They fuck up and I have to pay. So HP is looking trim costs (Ya, if you give the CEO 2 million dollar bonus, you have fire the low level people), which every company does, but the government never does. I know I am in the crosshairs, but I am not worried. I have 3 or 4 thousand in the bank and couple of 14K 401K 's that I can borrow from.
Here is the good news. I brush up my resume and put it on Monster.com, guess what? within 6 hours I get a call from another comany that wants to hire me. No shit, no joke. This company wants me to do the same thing I am doing right now (Same software and all) but pay me 6 thousand more a year. Yep, I might be going from 66.5K to 72.1K a year. I can't fucking believe it. I was stressed out this week; could not sleep and started drinking everynight to relax. Things just seem to be falling into place. And on the plus side, this company is located near the beach, so I can move toward the ocean and get out of the inland, which is where I am now. I just hope this works out. I would love to stick to HP by walking out on them because I got a new job making more money.
