Whew...long day.
So, how do you soothe your soul when you are ruffled? I'm not talking how do you puff your ego up when you feel inconsequential, I'm talking self-soothing. And not the jerking off kind of self-soothing. Just... how do you calm yourself so you can be still and get through a tough time?
I run or go for a bike ride or just go out with the dogs. When I am feeling frustrated or uptight or rattled I have to get outside, out in the air where I can take a deep breath and not think about anything but the sky and the breeze and the sun, and focus on my mind and body and heart working as one.
This always helps me forget about, or focus less on, the externals: what others expect from us, what we think we need to do to impress people, the whole superficial game we play with the outside world. And when I have to get back in the game I am calmer about it.
I have always tried to meditate, but I have difficulty with the sitting still part. I am much better with moving meditation. And the dogs help. One can't really be narcissistic when one has to keep another life going. And I really like dogs/animals better than most people. Far less neuroses and drama and issues. Life is pretty simple when you hang with canines.
In my next life I want to come back as one of my own dogs. My life would rock.
