let's see, what's been up with me...
well for one thing, i had to interview prisoners for my social reseach class. it was pretty interesting, though i didn't like how it took up two evenings of my time. when we got in the prison, the inmated were all banging on the windows and shouting at us. it was pretty funny and i felt a little flattered. the first day i had to interview a new guy how also happened to be a huge white supremisist. he obviously didn't want to be there, so it was pretty akward and i was glad when it was over. he was telling me he thinks that if he found the right woman, he thinks he could get his life turned around. i wish i could believe it was possible, but i don't really think so. the next person i interview was cool as shit. he was a black guy who got caught dealing heroin. i got the interview done and we just sat there and shot the shit for a while. he was telling me how guards sometimes sneak the drugs into the prison and that some of the best tattoos he's ever see he got in prison. he also detailed how they did DIY tattoos in prison. they soak a toilet paper tube in baby oil, let it dry and then burn it to get the black. then they mix it with baby oil and use a needle like part from a lighter to stab the ink into the skin. after touring the living quarters, i realized why prison doesn't work as a tool of reform very well: criminals surrounded by criminals doesn't really get people to become model citizens. some other random stuff about the trip i can think of: i watched a bee pollinate a flower, and i got a little crush on this one girl in my class. she had tan coloured skin and the cuttest little nose. the bridge of it slopped from her forehead, instead of curving in between her eyes.
also, yesterday i sat and read poems in speakers circle on campus for an hour. FYI, speakers circle is this place where people can go and talk about whatever, but it's pretty much only used for religious assholes and political demonstrations. i decided to use it for poetry instead. i like to read poems but all the open mikes i know of and have been to around here are competitive, which i absolutely hate and dispise. anyway, i didn't really get a huge crowd, but i didn't expect that and didn't want that either. my friend leo showed up and did some freestyle stuff, though it ended up being a little political. this didn't really matter, but i did advertise the event as non religious, non political. oh well. i'm glad i did it even though i don't think i did it very well. i'm planning to do it again next week. we shall see.

It is a wierd idea to bunch together criminals and hope they can be reformed, but I dont think that's really the priority of the prison industry.
One thing I thought about prisons recently was that, because it's such a business now, the prison industry surely can't want to see less criminals come in and out? Like most industry's, they'd proberly like to see more prisoners? I mean, there's a lot of jobs involved in it all, so they'd proberly get a lot of trouble if there was a sudden drop in the number of inmates and they had to let go workers.
Eh, it was just a random thought.
Ah, I dont like the idea of poetry in competion. It's wierd. A friend went in for a similar thing one night, and it was really cool to hear he did well, but it always seems wrong that art should compete like that. You should be proud of what you create, sure, but to be given gorunds to say "this is better than that" it's horrible.
I haven't read much poetry, but now I'm reading a lot more than I used to I'd be interested in reading some more poetry. Would you reccomend anything?
I just wanted to drop a comment to say I got your mix CD in the SG CD swap today. I've listened to it a few times today and it's really good! I liked most of the people on it already, but maybe some I hadn't listened to some of them that much - and though I've been meaning to I've never gotten around to hearing Swans so it was really cool to have a track by them. Thanks very much for putting together such a great CD!
*appologies if this post is a bit uncoherent, but I'm tired*
