So I took a practice CPAT today after work. It was the worst eleven minutes and three seconds of my life.
I actually did much better than I thought I would do. I have until March or so of 2006 to get that below the 10'20" mark the fire department has set up for us. I'm pretty certain I can bring well it below that mark by that time.
The hardest tasks were the stairclimb and the tunnel crawl. If I never have to climb another stair in my life it will be way too fucking soon and the tunnnel crawl was a pain in the ass just because I was not designed to go through tiny areas. I need my space. The easiest parts of the test were the mannequin drag, forced entry, and the equipment carry. But then again, when one weighs in at a svelte 295 lbs it shouldn't be too hard to drag a 165 lb dummy.
Once I drop to my target of 220 lbs I'll be ready to fuck up that CPAT.
