So thursday I went to see 3, Chiodos, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Coheed and Cambria.... First off 3 was pretty fucking impressive for an opening act. They definately got the audience involved and pumped for what was to come. They had two drummers on stage at all times and did some really cool synchronized drumming.
Chiodos well that is another story... of course every guy wearing girls jeans and pink tight ass tshirt and white shoes was into them. There keyboard player kept doing some wierd gay (no offense, I love gay people) dance that made me want to throw a brick at him. The lead singer has one of those I am a happy screamer attitudes that makes you want to gouge out his eyes and skull fuck him...ok that is a little harsh but seriously. It was like a really bad mix of thursday and saves the day. The lead singer totally seemed like the kind of guy who would fuck another guy in the ass and not have the common courtesy to give him a reach around.
Now Dillinger Escape Plan....OMG!!! They were the most brutal insane fun experience I have ever had at a concert. I have seen Gwar, The Misfits, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, ICP, all sorts of great live acts but dillinger gives you the cake and lets you eat it too. The pit was 20 ft wide and in Promowest that is pretty freaking large. People were flying all over the place I took a couple good shots to the kidney. The lead singer Greg was hanging by the cables that power the huge suspended speakers. He destroyed a cymbal stand threw some big hudred pound light box thing across the stage. It was fucking nuts. The band was so tight I didn't hear them skip a beat. Their music if you don't know it is so complex that hitting every not for even an experienced musician would be hard. I seriously suggest that next time you see them come through anywhere near here to check them out.
Ok, Coheed fans I am happy to report that Coheed sounds great live. It seemed like I would have enjoyed it a lot had I not just seen Dillinger play. Dillinger was complete sensory overload. Coheed came out played a ton of great songs really well and I was complete desensitized to it. I felt like I was watching TV. Any other night I am sure I would have been impressed.... that's it for now..hopefully I will make it out to outlands later this month to see all the local folks.
