So, I just saw the beginning of a commercial for a bicycle with an automatic transmission. And, at first, I though, which kind of amazing idiot would pay money for something like that. Then I remembered how many times i have laughed at jerks I've seen riding bikes, peddling like crazy, but barely moving because they didn't know enough to switch gears.
Of course, the infomercial doesn't look at it that way. It's not that people are too stupid to grasp such a simple concept. One that could be figured out with trial and error in five minutes, like I, and I am sure plenty of other people did when they were about 8 years old. No. It's that bikes are just SO darn confusing.
How the fuck are we, as a country, going to get by when people who are too dumb to realize that when you shift one way, it gets easier to pedal but you go slower, and if you shift in the other direction, you can go faster, but it's harder to pedal, are allowed to vote? And not only that, but they are willing to spend MORE money on a crappy bike because it means they don't have to figure out how gears work.
We're doomed.
