Some observations.
Our subject can't stand that the other woman exceeds her in so many ways: as intelligent, as talented, as funny, more attractive, more successful, and younger.
What our subject really can't stand though is that we all know that if he could turn back the clock a few years he would choose to be with the other woman, and not with our subject.
Not because he doesn't love our subject, and she him.
But because on some level he feels like he settled for second best with our subject.
And so she protects her territory against the other woman, against any possible other women, and keeps him in line...
...because it is the only way she can keep him, period.
