Last night I had a great time at my local. The Djs were spinning early funk and soul, you know the really infectious brand that makes your feet glide around under you. There was a beautiful young lady tearing things up. She was really the only one dancing as the bar is more of a lounge and the people tend to be a bit pretentious. That is until I stepped up as well. I wasn't trying to dance with her, I do it for myself and my enjoyment more than anything, but we both moved similar and made eye contact on a few occassions. We danced near each other due to the space, but not exactly with each other. A bit over an our passed like this and then she walked off to the bar while I continued. The majority of the night passed the same, with me rarely leaving the floor and her returning once or twice more. I noticed her as she was leaving and had a quick internal debate as to my action. I could go and say hello and make the connection, or I could simply catch her eye again and pass my respect on with a tip of my hat. I chose the latter and we smiled knowingly as she disappeared into the crowd.
Later someone asked me where she had gone off to. I responded with my ignorance and told him I had no idea who she was. He seemed a bit surprised by this as he and his friends thought we were together, or at least were dancing together. Considering her skill, I took this as a powerful compliment.
I have never seen her before, though I frequent the bar. I have no idea who she is. And I don't know if I will ever see her again. I don't really care, though. It's strange, but the moment was majestic on it's own and I did not want to ruin that.
But, if I ever see her again I'm pulling out all the stops.
