Well I'm back. It wasn't an easy trip. Both my mother and I were totally beat even before the three planes to get home yesterday.
Grandma is still with us, though every day she fell further. When we first arrived she would talk to us, though not much, and was eating a bit of chicken broth and jello at every meal. She recognized me and was quite pleased to see me there with my mom, aunt and uncle.
By the time we left she would only talk if something was greatly discomforting her. Mainly to tell the nurses to leave her alone when they would try to move her around a bit. She wasn't eating anything and while she would ask for the occassional drink of water, she would do no more than just a bit to moisten her lips.
I'm not sure if it was more difficult to leave with her still alive than it would have been otherwise. Mom and I both said our goodbyes and told her that it was alright to let go.
