I know i'm going to put a jinx on this as soon as I tell you but it appears my sacrificing of a poor, defenceless, orphan goat during yesterday's festivities has paid off. I have.......*awe-filled hush*......

......scored tickets for My Chemical Romance at the Brixton Acadamey in November!!

How rock is that?!?!?!!?!? biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

I am currently giddier than a giddy thing being spun around on a roundabout at g-force producing speeds.

Naturally, I have a few minor insecurities about this:-

1)I have never been the Brixton Acadamy; I don't know where it is, what the layout is, when to start queueing, what the etiquette is for live rock gigs etc etc

2)The last (in fact, I am ashamed to say, the only..) live gig I have ever been to was when Michael Jackson played at Wembley back in ooooooooh 1990 or something like that. I went with my brother and he took care of all of the stressy things - I just turned up, queued for 8 hours and then bopped to MJ's greatest hits.

3)How out of place am I going to look, being the only chap with a brief case, pinstripe suit and with greying and receding hair?

4)I know as soon as I mention this out loud something will go wrong. The tickets will be lost/stolen/eaten in the post; MCR will cancel because they split up; I catch the flu 2 days before the gig; a plague of locusts attacks me and eats me alive, leaving nothing but a bone dry skeleton to attend the event; you get the idea....

So, to all you regular gig goers I seek a little assistance. Excuse my childish naivety but....what do I do?

Oooh, I am so excited!!!!

Brixton is not as bad and everyone believes it to be. Sure whilst standing in line outside you get (probable) druggies ask for spare tickets/buy your ticket/sell a ticket/fags/skunk etc etc but ignore them and you won't have any problems.

As you leave the underground at Brixton station go RIGHT and keep walking. The Academy in on the left/outside of the road (can't miss it).

Doors open about 7pm. Depending on how popular the band is there shouldn't be a problem. I usually like to get there for 7pm. The warm up band begins about 8pm-8.30/9pm then the main band follow straight afterwards.
I used to like going right to the front but due to the youth today (crushing and wankers) I prefer it nearer the back (closer to the bar too). Its a slight sloping floor so you get an ok at the back still.
As you go in they check bags btw. No food or weapons. Remember that tongue

The beer is EXPENSIVE. About 2.95 for a plastic pint of.... you've guessed it- CARLING! The cloakroom is also expensive - 2 an item (none refunable) and the queue is usually VERY long. I don't bother with that.
Also if you wish to buy clothing (you can see it straight away as you go in) I suggest you buy before you enter and it gets packed afterwards and all items sell out quickly.

I've been to loads of concerts where we've seen people in all sorts of get ups (yep pinstrip suits too). Only the wankers would care about what you're wearing, others would just think you came straight from work and admire you for liking the same stuff they do.

Anything else I can tell you.... mmm. I dunno really. Think I've covered about 80% of it. Brixton Academy is a lovely place. Not too big, not too small and has beer! You'll enjoy it!

oh bands usually play for about 1 1/2. usually finishing about 11.30pm. The last train from Brixton is about 1am so you don't have to worry about that. smile
