Tomatoes, basil and dead animals under the house... My buddy Alan was crying to me about the two inches of snow they've had in New York this last week, but I'm an understanding soul so I kind of resented his calling me a bastard because we have decent weather here in Los Angeles. It all started when I mentioned that I had finally gotten my little garden going in the last few weeks and that I was hoping it would be a good crop. Hey, EXCUSE ME if you have to survive on whale blubber, buddy! Nobody told you to live there!

Then, yesterday morning I smelled something awful in the house and knew it had to be something that managed to get under the house and die. This afternoon, after learning that it would be a minimum of $250 to get whatever it was out, I began a series of engineering exercises to build a long enough, strong enough pole - I know, some of you girls who know me already know what I *could* have used, right, nod, wink? -- and eventually got the thing out. Still not sure what it was, but it was big. No pictures, sorry. Too gross.

But, since we're on the subject of gardening, my friend who dropped by to trade me a five pound bag of espresso beans for a couple of pinches of some pot I had had lying around for a long time looked at my back patio and suggested that I redo the area off to the side of the house with some raised beds for lettuce and beans and by god, I'm a gonna do it. So, tomorrow it'll be yard work again, but at least it's gonna smell good.

That's all for now. Bye bye...

Hi. I just wanna say that the comment you left on my "Chuck Taylors" set is one of the nicest anyone has left me. Thank you.

Also, lovely garden! Mine isn't doing to bad either up here in Oaktown...
