But this isn't an unhappy post. It's the latest book - my sixth, thus far. It's almost finished.
This is a kind of fairy tale/folkloric #horror story, based on a mask-wearing ritual which still happens in Portugal today. They're thought to ward off evil spirits.
I wrote a short story about it a couple years ago, which was featured on a fiction podcast. It was received so well - and again, when I put the story in my short fiction collection. So I've spent the past few months adapting it to a novella.
And it's almost done.
It's funny, because I don't usually have a lot of other ideas when I'm writing. Though now, as I am heading for the finish line, the next book has been jostling for position in my head. The first couple scenes are already fully formed.
I'm looking forward to getting started.
