Smokey the Cat was euthanized today. She had been banished to the folks' garage for some time due to her incontinence issues and the fact that she was unable to clean herself anymore. She also had a monstrously leaky puss filled bubble just below her right ear which made anyone think twice about petting the poor old thing. She was scraggly and dilapitated and a sweetheart. Had she been let out a raccoon might have murdered her out of pity, through no course of hunger or savagery. The general sentment is that putting her down was the humane thing to do. I know it put an end to her suffering, but I wonder if paying a vet to do it was the right way. It seems so impersonal. Should one of us who knew her and loved her for so long ended her miserable life?
