last night was a wonderful yet a sad night.
it was the last funk night of the summer. and it was DJ AJ's last night before she goes away to school.
so after the last song, there was a huge ovation. and everyone was cheering, most ppl didn't know what was going on. but for the regulars, it was a special moment, she's been dj'ing that for at least 5 years that i know of. and it is without a doubt the best night of the week.
i've been going for about 2-3 years missing only the odd wed, where it was school hectic.
hmmm. how could i describe it??? although it is a club night, it is the only bar (call the office) where
-getting groped is not a norm.(for girls)
-never are there fights.
it was so funny, walking up richmond right after and seeing at least a dozen cop cars and pattywagons, outside all the other trendy clubs.
it is a little treasure we have. lets see what else..
-no 'dress code' you don't get kicked out for wearing your hat sideways or wearing 'gang' colours (whatever those are) and you don't have to wear a collared shirt, or the most expensive apparell in your arsenal.
-different types of people get along. by that i mean the goths, punks, jocks, cheerleaders, outcasts, misfits and the popular people. it's the only place where i see all these people getting along and dancing with eachother, there are no labels,
-the only place where people actually know HOW to dance. every other bar i've been to there's the usual, ' beer in one hand and nod your head' most importantly their feet never move. mainly cuz it's so packed, but dancing is all about the footwork.
-kinda related... the only place where they let you breakdance. or from other perspective, only bar where you get to see live breakdancing for free. without having the bar bitch about insurance policy. it's funny how real dancing is discouraged in most bars
-awesome people there, hot alternative chics yay!
check out my pics section to see what you've been missing. i have funk pics from over a year ago

and i feel sad when people complain about this town having a lack of culture or diversity, or call it a white conservative town. for the most part it is, 80% or so i believe, but there are things out there that are the alternative, you just gotta know where to look.
so farewell to 'mo gravy' funk night and all it's glories, and thank you for wonderfull people you've introduced me to.
*funk night will continue but a new DJ takes over in september.
in other news...
system of a down tonite bitches!
i'll have crappy pics later on. seeing as how i broke my camera and can't zoom in , and broke the buttons, so i only have one option when taking pics. flash on or off.
