Last night I went to a party at a friend's I hadn't seen in some time. Her family is over from London for the holidays and she had been wanting me to meet her brother, another photographer, for some time. As she introduced me to her brothers and sisters she said such wonderful things about me. I was touched. It made me realize, there's my circle of friends I see almost every day, and that's fine, but there are so many other people who I may not see all that much, who care and think about me. Life gets in the way of so muchand makes us forget things that should be so obvious.
I met her right after her and her husband broke up. They had been together since she was 13, some twenty-some years. They had just settled in Los Angeles, bought a home, and she was ready to have children, when he tells her he's gay and leaving her for a man they both worked with. (Whenever people would ask her she if she ever saw and clues that this could happen, she would say,"what, he's English and a hairdresser, they all act gay"). As they were a team, under contract with a huge hair company, and booked for a year ahead of time all over the world, she had to go on the road and travel with the ex who brought his lover along with him. This had to be hard. I couldn't have done it. It's been about five years since the breakup. I last saw her on the 4th of July and it was the first time I had actually seen her smile beaming. She told me she had finally met someone. Last night I met him, he's a good guy, and she's so very happy. This made me happy. It's so cool when someone you care for, who really deserves it finds what they've been looking for.
