blew my physical assessment out of the water this morning, of course, but now i have my final basic machinery exam to deal with tomorrow. this last section has left me completely dumbfounded, filled to the brink with so many definitions and component purposes. the shit isn't necessarily hard, and there isn't a lot of it, but holy crap i just feel like an idiot every time i'm asked to discuss shit like the external and internal flowpaths for a lube oil purifier or the procedures for measuring shaft angular and parallel misalignment, as well as radial and axial movement. shit like that is easy but right now i don't know jack shit 'cept lignum phytae. that stuff's just cool.
stayed up all night ironing my uniform and shining my boots just so i don't look like a bag of ass tomorrow, some confidence before such an anxiety-inspiring occasion. hey, at least it's biscuits and gravy morning for chow. hoo-fucking-yah.
5 hours of sleep should be sufficient to survive tomorrow. at least we have a field day, too: can't wait to get into my coveralls and strip and wax that floor. the place is starting to look unprofessional. i think i got the best sleep in boot camp.
oh well, time to go have more nightmares about missing muster. those are the worst.
update: i passed, got the best grade in the class with a respectable 3.44. put in for a regrade, so i may get points back. right now, before regrades, i have the leading grade in the course, so, if the person closest to me in grades doesn't get his regrade, i'll be the class' basic machinery fireman. get a little name tag and certificate and some other silly shit. but what an accomplishment!

I knew you'd do well. Keep up the good work, sailor.

Did I miss something? When did you join the military? I must have missed a lot in my four month absence.
