well, it's been a while since i've last logged in, finally got a steady connection to the internet. so, how about an update?
the first basic machinery exam went well enough: 3.55, best score in the class. since then i've have math 2 and basic machinery 2: 3.28 and 3.38, respectively. apparently i'm doing well enough, third in the class by only hundredths. our class' cumulative gpa is only 3.03, my gpa is 3.43. so yeah, i guess i'm doing alright. could be doing better.
things have finally settled down around here: i'm used to the odd hours, i changed rooms so now i have some awesome roommates that i get along with. i'm starting to really like it here. looking for a vehicle now, of the classic persuasion, so i can actually get around the area without having to wait for the unreliable duty driver.
this weekend i didn't really do too much. chilled with friends on friday, went shopping today (got 2 pairs of pumas for $90, a little vacuum and a wireless router). it feels weird spending money, because i'm not used to having any, but now i can afford to have really nice stuff. not like i have room for anything, but it's nice getting at least a few sets of nice clothes. or video games or some shit. anyways, i have my eyes on a pair of puma amokos (vintage or black, i can't decide) that i easily afford, though i'm probably going to hold off until my next paycheck or until i can get this shit with my transportation settled. i'm trying to sell my truck back in california (a 2001 4runner, really nice truck, but it'd be a pain in the ass to get it out here) as it's costing me $315 a month in insurance and payments and i can't even drive it and i'm looking for something else out here (there's a '72 chevelle ss, '69 camaro, '72 el camino, and a '72 ranchero that i'm looking at). shouldn't be too hard to get my hands on any of those, but waiting for my truck to sell is going to be a pain in the ass. wish me luck!
yesterday i helped out with my local habitat for humanity, spent all day shingling a roof. got sunburned to shit, but the roof looked great:

it looks like they've got at least 5 more weekends of work left on that house, so i'm definitely going to do that until they're done with it, and then i'm sure that i'll move on with them to their next project. it's a win-win situation: i get to help families get homes and i get a sweet volunteer ribbon to put on my uniforms (after 200 hours of volunteer service, that is). so yeah, 9 hours down, 191 to go!
now if you'll excuse me, i have to clean the damn place. that's the only bad part about moving: putting all your shit away again and cleaning up after yourself. oh well, i'll put on a movie or something.

i'm glad things are going well over there, hun. Building houses and only ranking third in your class, that's super sweet.
