"why did you decide to join the navy?"

i had nothing better to do with my life. i've always been interested in the ocean. mathematics was the only thing i was ever really consistant with in school. all of the men in my family have been in the military, most of them in the navy. i needed work, but it's becoming extremely difficult to find...

I just had one of the most profoundly disturbing convesations of my entire life with an ex Navy guy I had lunch with.
I tried to write about it on my blog but I can't finish it yet , it's making my heart hurt.
be_elzebe:
What do you mean you want to do something? Joining the frickin' navy is sure as hell doing something. Also, I have a difficult time believing that a belle-of-the-ball such as yourself has difficulty with the "basics of being social." What gives?

driving down highway 5 today, the engine roaring, the rain pouring, i found myself howling and growling along with my good friend tom waits. i came upon a realization then, listening to an advance copy of his new album, "orphans," that it feels like we're all living in his songs. what a great collection.

halloween was meh. i skipped going to the castro, which is...

today was interesting for a handful of reasons:

with my fitness test this thursday, i should be prepared to do at least 30 push-ups and 45 sit-ups in 2 minutes or under and run 1.5 miles in under 14 minutes. i'm sure i'm ready for this, but i'll have to spend the rest of the week practicting. today, though, i was supposed to check in...

Do you mean that we shouldn't define or allow our lives to be defined? Or that its impossible to even try?

I have that problem with starting things but failing on the followthrough, too. It's kind of awful sometimes, but sometimes it works, so what can you do? Jesus, this might be the most trite fucking aphorism-type comment ever.

I'm pretty sure I didn't get my bruise from doing anything as rad as truck surfing with no shoes. I think I just ran into something...

I think you just have to go around your house/room/apartment and sit on various things and then call yourself, and see if whatever you're sitting on starts buzzing.

Or just be really, really quiet when you call yourself. I can usually hear mine buzzing. It's when it's on silent that I'm doomed.
be_elzebe:
Did you find your phone? And can we see the pumpkin?

If concentrated awesome came in a can, like concentrated juice, I don't think it would resemble my mystery bruise. But thanks, I guess. I haven't seen a bruise this big and bad on my body since that biting contest gone bad.

Have a spooOOoOoOky halloween!

if i had to choose between the dog and my father, i'd have to say i'd keep the dog around.

You're a fickle bitch, aren't you? Having a whole thread dedicated specifically to hot chicks demanding to see you naked has really gone to your head. I'd say you used to stand for something, but I'd just sprain my neck laughing.

At least you still have your priorities straight between people and animals.
zarth:
I loved it!

I mean...uh. way to go, Ninja.

Town theme songs have no real criteria to speak of. Could be a song with the name in it, or a song that kind of captures the mood of a place.

That David Blaine thing is officially the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Everything about Babelfish is inaccurate, but it's just such lazy fun to see if it comes up with anything passable. ooo aaa

Also, is the new Timberlake honestly any good? I want to hate him so badly, but that damn single isn't as bad as it should be.

(I read your journal before and wanted to comment, but I was too excited about Project: Runway and I forgot. whatever )

i've had my truck back a whole 20 minutes and i've already hit a bush. to be fair, the foliage had it coming.

the teaser trailers for hot fuzz are online, but they won't load on my computer. this is by far one of the worst things to ever happen to me.

happy voorhees day, everyone!

ghettoblaster:

i wouldn't call the enlisted who choose not to fight courageous, but i at least respect their convictions. you should, in turn, respect those who feel it is necessary to sacrific their lives for the rest of america and even those who are cowardly enough to sit back and criticize ignorantly. you may disagree with the reason for the war, but this is not the place. this is about supporting our troops, not about airing your grievances with the reasoning behind the whole ordeal. have some respect.

On behalf of all of us in SG Military, we appreciate your eloquence.

you know there's something wrong with you when you're feeling left out on world of warcraft. frown

note to self: get a life/job/clue.

update:

life: i left a message with my navy liaison regarding shipping to basic earlier. i also rewrote my entire schedule to mimic the first week of basic training: little sleep, intense workouts, quick meals and showers, leaving just a little free time...

I used to feel left out on my MUX, which is a primitive text-based chat room/RPG thing. So I just quit logging in. I still don't really have much of a life, but at least all the people who still do log in notice my absense and think I do. wink
