Well, life trudges on. I've been pretty heartbroken and down over the past couple of weeks, but I think I'm starting to come around the bend.
Went to some interesting things this weekend, not the least of which was south of the border at a place called "La Antigua Bodega Del Papel". Apparently it used to be a paper factory in Tijuana, but now it is a bar/cafe. The 2nd half of the "Spring Reverb 04" was held dowm there. Mostly spastic jazz. My friend R commented, "when are they going to finish tuning up?". Not everyone's cup of tea, but interesting nonetheless.
After the show, a local Mexican band took the sage. They set up two laptops and two mikes. The laptops were manned by 20 something guys, and two young women got on the mikes. They sang a kind of nonverbal, tonal melody. Kind of like an upbeat Sigur Ros, with women. They were pretty damn good. I think I may have finally found a way to infiltrate the underground music scene in Tijuana.
For those of you who don't know about this, they have been cranking out some pretty interesting electronic stuff for several years now, starting with the Nortic Collective around 2000. The problems is, getting information about events south of the border in non-trivial.
Now I at least have a starting point.
Groovy.
