Warning. This entry contains descriptions of sport related violence and photographs containing blood. Mainly mine, but not all of it. And since I don't update often, it's really long so you can read it in parts.

My parents did not approve of sports. Raised in poor areas, with overbearing, uneducated parents, my parents had short, unsuccessful brushes with college; and, as some people still do...

Alright, update time.

I've been working a fun, but low paying job at a game company (low paying for what I'm trained to do). as an assistant art director, which is really more of an admin type thing. Recently, though, I've gotten to review portfolios, do a little design work. and continue to rail against copperplate gothic, the best looking overused font of all time....

The whole photoshop thing... I've worked with guys who just stared at me when I'd crack open illustrator and... uh... illustrate in it. "You don't do that in photoshop?" "Uh, no... the pen tool in photoshop is terrible, and... come on... there's a reason it's called illustrator." Or even worse, a friend of mine who made the footer graphic of his site a swf... mind you, there was no animation in this file, and a GIF would have saved him like 30-40k in file size (let alone the extra markup). When I asked him, he just said "quit bashing Flash!" shocked

I feel your pain of ingnorance in the work place. It abounds in education as well which is not just appauling, but down right sad. (Do you enjoy how I speak of fuck-up teachers, but cannot spell to save my own life? Yes, I thought you would notice the irony).

As far as the breast cancer v. heart disease issue, it bums me out as well. I agree that there is undue ignorance in this area. I think the main issue with breast cancer is that is psychologically devistating to many women. having a breast removed feel like having part of thier womanhood removed. Although, I'm sure they would be more affected by being dead from heart disease. There is a new "cute" PR thing starting surrounding women's heart disease. It is the "Red Dress" campaign. It started a few years back and is starting to gain exposure.

As far as this issues goes, the medical field has been sadly lagging behind as well. It is just recently (past 10 years or so) that they started to realize, "hey maybe we should get some statistics on female heart disease, ya know since it's killing a butt load of them, instead of just assuming the research on men applies directly to them." That was such a genius move. Who would have thought that men and women's bodies differed.

OK, this response is now almost as long as your blog (but not so long as other things, from what I have heard wink ). Inappropriate, I appologize, for the long blog that is not the side comment. Luv you, write soon. kiss

So, click back one if you want to hear the brief story of my newly found biological dad and two (half) sisters.

Bio dad died in 1985, which would have made him 45. I was 20 at the time, but, of course, didn't know. Until last week. Some of you might think I'm mad not knowing, but, truth be told, I'm only sad at the...

What a crazy situation. I'm glad that you and your sisters have been able to hook up and are getting to know one another. You don't get too many true surprises in your life at our age. So, I'm glad you have gotten at least 2 good ones smile
dempsey:
well, if it helps any, i'm 25 and the grey hair is already creeping in. but hell, age is 90% psychology, 9.25% biology and .75% how many hotdogs you ate between the ages 8-14.

Quickish update.

The job I was working let me go. The project they brought me in for was cancelled, so it was kinda poor planning on their part. They did give me an extra week of pay, which is pretty unheard of for a contract position. As a consulation prize, I may be starting at Wizards of the Coast on Monday, doing assistanty Art Direction...

Alright, I'm starting work in Monday, so I may go back to the posting once a month thing (one-half the posting twice a month that went on in July and August. Yes, L., if you're checking, you missed about four entries since you were exiled to Utah.)

Instead of a big block of bitch, like my last couple entries, I give you some pics. Of...

I'm annoyed at Oliver Stone's World Trade Center movie. Not because it's too soon, or because I think it's manipulative; no, right now it sums up what annoys me about people in general and Americans in specific. No, I'm not some sort of commie America hater. I love my country and what is has and could stand for again. What I despise is our miracle/lotto...

This will be an eventual NetFlix for me...unless, as usual, my family sends me a DVD as a present.

That's how I end up seeing many hollywood pictures...as family inflicted pseudo-gifts.

Yeah, the few clips I've seen of United 93 do give a good feel of the neutral documentary style of it. Isn't Paul Greengrass the director? What I've seen of his stuff has been good, and I think he's done a few documentaries in the past that have been well received; seems like he's got a knack for that kind of thing.

I had a little moment of clarity this morning, coming home from the gym. At least I hope it was, but only the future will tell. Let me bring you up to speed.

I had a dream last night that I kissed this woman. I'm not sure who she was (when I awoke... I knew her in the dream). She had dark hair and a...

I was raised in a Republican household. I want to make it clear, the current President is not Republican. Nor is most of the party he represents. My Republican father has a saying that pretty much sums up the true Republican platform: Your rights end at the tip of my nose.

Republicans do not spy on their own citizens. In fact, one of the reasons...

Well said. Your opinions reflect my own in many ways. I've voted for more republicans than democrats in my life and never really regretted my decisions until recently. Voted for Bush in 2000. Voted against him in 2004 and have been growing more and more furious with the direction of his leadership. Now I view it as an almost complete disaster.

Most leaders tend to be a mixed bag in my opinion. I'll agree with them on some choices they make and disagree with other decisions. It's very distressing to me to recognize that there's almost nothing he has done that I've supported. Virtually every decision has resulted in a worsening of the matter at hand rather than an improvement.

This isn't a democratic versus republican idealism situation. And thank you for articulating that. Of course, the party whose badge he wears suffers much of the reputation damage and I think that will be a problem for a long time to come.

I have long regretted that a candidate pretty much has to be a member of one of these two parties to have any reasonable chance at being elected. Our choices... and pool of candidates... is much too narrow to be an accurate reflection of the wishes of the American people. A shame. A breath of fresh air sure would be welcome.

This should be a short update. I am currently job hunting. I know I'm not a hot blond with an ass that tastes like french vanilla ice cream, but if anyone knows of any design work opening, let me know. I can do straight up graphic design (I'm a type ninja), web design, a little after-effects (teaching myself right now), writing, art direction, whatever.

I...
