Early X-Files was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose came out in '93, I think it really came into its own, commercial and artistically. The whole season has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives that episode a big boost.
