I'm taking some bagua classes in an effort to learn better control. I had a recent realization, which in hindsight is really obvious: strikes, blocks, and the like should be measured. Not necessarily precisely--you don't need to punch with the same force every time. But my tendency up until recently was to hit as hard as I could every time I hit. And when I sparred, I was pretending to hit as hard as I could every time I hit, which meant that when I slipped up, I hurt people (or got hurt). So I've been going back through my forms and techniques and relearning them, adding force as a variable instead of a set value (that value being "110% every time").
It's really, really hard.
Other things that are hard: writing. I'm about halfway done with this. I know how it's going to end, but there's events in the middle that I'm still figuring out how to fit in. As this is part of a series, and the events I'm pondering relate to the rest of the series, I'm thinking I may have to write a few other stories before I can finish this one.
I figured, back when i started this project, that writing a series of connected short stories would be easier than writing a full-length novel. I can be pretty dumb sometimes.
