hi
just got back from Reno last night. that place is a ghost town. only the biggest/oldest casinos were still open. even the Fitz had closed. it was kind of creepy being on the main drag with everything boarded up and and the only other thing on the street was the rolling tumble weeds. needless to say, we didn't hang out on the main drag very long.
we stayed at the peppermill which was still alive and kicking. it was our first time there and i get the impression it's geared toward people in their 60's. they advertise their hotel as "the place to relax" and that's exactly what i planned on doing for my birthday weekend. we had a spa room that came equiped with a hot tub and sauna. this was probably the first time i went to a gambling town and spent more time in my room than in the casino. i hadn't been in a hot tub in a very long time so i wanted to take advantage of the opportunity. the wife and i had a pretty romantic time if you catch my meaning. even though i would have loved to stay in the room the whole time, we had to go out a little.
we did pretty well on a couple of slot machines, which was sort of weird cuz slots are supposed to rob you. i should have stayed at the slots, but it's a good thing i didn't cuz the power started going on and off for the rest of the night right after i decided to move to the tables. it wasn't that good of an idea though. this one black jack dealer took $100 from us in 15 minutes. after that humiliatoin, we decided to go have dinner. the restaraunt we chose was decently priced, the food was great and the porportions were large enough that neither of us finished our meals.
so, then it was time to hit the tables again. i gues we picked the right black jack table cuz we played at that one for about four hours, watching this blues cover band called m8trix, drinking scotch and patron all night. there was another couple sitting at the table with us who was really fun. we were the loudest table on the floor.
we were tipping our waitress three dollars a drink so she hung out with us pretty much all night. that's the trick see, tip big, get more drinks. actually the real trick is having two bottles of liquor in your room . once sufficiently toasted, then go down to the casino floor. they watered their drinks down quite a bit. i had like six shots of scotch in an hour and wasn't even slurring. that's to be expected though. i've only been in a couple of casinos that actually serve real liquor and one was on the way home.
we stopped in boomtown on my actual birthday, (monday), to see if our gambling luck had changed any. the casino there is quite small and mainly family oriented with a little amusement area for kids in it. we lost $200 in slots when we first got there in about an hour. so i took our last hundred bucks to a single deck black jack table that had a $5 minimum. after three hours and one really strong scotch we were back up to $350. i decided that was good enough, so we left. (we actually got up to about $500 and started loosing, so it was time to go.)
today is our recovery day before we go back to work tomorrow. everyone there is expecting a bunch of pictures of our trip. unfortunately, we didn't take many due to the romantic nature of the trip. the pictures we did take were just of kewl things we saw. i don't think we took any of ourselves.
anyway, i had a great birthday weekend. i hope all of yours was good too!

Awww ya know what ... a get-away is JUST what I need!! I need to relax and get to a sauna and hot tub like STAT before someone around here gets murdered.
I sometimes forget how close you Californians are to Vegas (well some of u) I haven't been anywhere west of Arkansas, Im dying to get over to Texas, Denver, and VEGAS! Just to go, not to gamble, Im too cheap and unlucky to gamble, ha! Imagine ME ... gambling with this kind of black cloud, ha!
Ooooh, I see now, it was your BIRTHDAY!!!! I thought that was just ... I dunno, your life! Getting to go to pamper yourself at a spa and go to vegas whenever, hell what do I know! Im glad your birthday was special, I really do believe that bdays *should always* be special, no matter how old u are. I don't like the grumpy attitude that goes along with those ppl that could give a shit if it's their bday or your bday (especially if they're like, a fuckin FRIEND? LOL) But kudos, sounds like a memorable one.
