Back it up (For obsessives only)
Have you ever gotten obsessed with trying to figure out lyrics? I love the way rappers play with rhythm and rhyme, but understanding exactly what they are saying takes work. Consider the following from the classic Back that azz up... Juvenile starts rapping in the second verse which starts with
You got a stupid ass, yeah
Make me laugh, yeah
Make a nigga wanna grab that
Then, what the hell is that fourth line? Is it
All that grab there?
l
Now, you might wonder, who cares exactly what Juvenile said? Just listen and enjoy (except you should be listening to something new instead of some ancient oldie). Well, if you think that, you obviously are not a candidate for obsessive compulsive personality. But theres more to it than that. Someone achieving at Juveniles level is worth taking seriously, even when it might look like hes just playing around and showing off.
I'm sweating on the drawers, yeah
Hard log, yeah
Wanna walk it like a dog, yeah
Rip you off, yeah
How you gon' get yours, yeah
That's for sure, yeah
You fucking with my nerves, yeah
To the curb, yeah
I know you bitches know, yeah
And it show, yeah
But a nigga got some mo', yeah
I'm 'bout to flow, yeah
Fresh brought some shit, yeah
And his bitch, yeahl
If you go to various lyrics sites, you get a number of different interpretations of the above lines. The last two were given as Fresh off some shit yeah/in his bitch, yeah. Why am I confident I have it right? Because Fresh is Manny Fresh and the shit he brought might be weed but it might be some good ideas for raps. The next line helps see this...
We be making hit, yeah
After hit, yeah l
Check this out for yourself. Anyway, I need to heed the advice of Juveniles ex-bud, Lil Wayne..
After you back it up, then stop Then wha-wha-what
Drop-drop it like it's hot
Now after you back it up, then stop
Now, wha-wha-wha-what
Drop-drop it like it's hot
Now drop it like it's hot
Drop, drop it like it's hot l
