This blog has been a long time in the making. I feel as though so much has been going on not only in my life but in my head that even if it is just for my own peace, I need to be penning something down. The past month has been an emotional blur. Time has gone by swiftly and much has happened. I feel a need to recap.
In April of this past year I left my seemingly stable job of 6+ years at Fossil and moved across the hall to Bombay. Whether it was because I felt my job had either become to comfortable and no longer challenging or whether it was just the desire for change and actually to network more towards my degree, I felt it a necessary step in life. Less than two and a half months after my hire date, our district manager arrived and informed us that our store would be closing a month later. Each of us panicked and grieved in our own separate ways. Some had only been there for less than a year, much like myself, while others had invested 13 years. Some got jobs right away, others are still looking. My own personal search has been interesting.
I applied for quite possibly 20 to 25 positions in various companies. I heard back from one company right away and interviewed a few days later. After touching base with them the next week, I never heard back. It was about another week before I heard anything from anyone. I interviewed at a clothing store that wanted to hire me right away, and I accepted the job in order to say that I had a job, but after filling out the paper work I realized that I would have to seasonally purchase a new wardrobe and a new handbag(due to LP reasons) and with the fact that it would be a $3/hour pay cut and only part time hours, I called them back and told them I had decided to move in a different direction. I had a promising interview at another store, submitted a few more applications and got a call back for a bank job. I also received an e-maill from my 'giner Dana saying that a designer acquaintance of hers needed a second set of hands and that I should touch base with her. At this point Bombay was still open, probably three weeks into the closing process, when the owner of UBU came into the store. We talked and he suggested that I stop in and apply for a part time slot. A few days later I interviewed at the bank before going into work, and a few hours later received a call from them wishing to offer me a part time position at 30hrs a week and that same day received a call from UBU wishing for me to interview with them when they got their new store manager in. I was geeked. Not only did I have one job lined up, but seemingly two others...I could work 30 hours a week at the bank and do part time at UBU, how cool would that be to get my foot in the door!
Bombay closed in the middle of the next week. The truck they brought to clear out the rest of the store was too small so they had to go rent another one. Plus, they made Christine (my boss) drive it to Lansing and back. I ran errands with the family for the rest of that week before beginning job shadowing at the bank the following Monday. The goal would be to shadow a teller for a few days before my two week training session began in Troy. I shadowed for two days before my interview at UBU. I spoke with the man for maybe five minutes; he told me I was wasting my talent at Bombay, but that I was overqualified to work at there. Then he mentioned that their sister store Great Lakes interiors was also looking for people to hire. He faxed over my resume and phone the manager, telling me to expect a call with in the next day. Sure enough, Wednesday I received a phone call from the manager asking me to come in for an interview on Friday. The rest of that day I spent reupholstering a chair with my ex-Bombay coworker Kara and helping Missy with bridal shower center pieces.
Meanwhile Bombay managed to screw up just about everyone's paycheck. Forgetting to include about a week of pay.
So Friday I went in for my interview at Great Lakes Interiors. He asked me a few questions, I asked him a few questions and he offered me a job on the spot. You are now looking at the new design consultant for Great Lakes Interiors. Training is 13 weeks long and begins on the 17th of September. I called the bank and left a message saying what had just happened, and I apologized saying that the experience was great but something else had come to pass. In the meantime I'll be celebrating my joy for three weeks by sitting on my duff. :o)
Yay for jobs!!

Awesome. Now that you're jobless, if you're bored tomorrow (or today as the case may be) and you want to come shopping with me. Give me a call. We could do lunch.
