The question I get often: "Why are you Goth?"
Well first off Goth is not Emo, nor is it Punk/SKA. Goth isn't about wanting to /wrists at a moments notice when the boss tells you to work overtime or when your parents get divorced. Too many kids these days (wait Mord, you're 34 not an old man) see the glamour of Goth as being "My life sucks I wanna die." First off, not to sound crass but I'm sure wherever you live there are some knives around.... what's stopping you?
For myself being Gothic is an artistic choice as much as it is an enjoyment of the dark and macabre. Literature like Edgar Allen Poe, music like Faith and the Muse and/or C. Death. Old structures like in London with the gargoyles (if you must go buy one at Spencers) and rich gray pillars that jut themselves skyward.
Some of us "Old-Schoolers?" may have remembered being called "Mods" in High School, being laughed at by Jocks for wearing Doc Martens then subsequently seeing those same Jocks wear them a few years down the road. Safety Pins and rolled up pant cuffs were the thing before the wide pant legs, chain strap JNCO Jeans style pants became popular (although I admit I own a few pairs of those chain-linked pants).
For awhile after High School people wondered if Goth was dead (haha wasn't it always "dead") but thanks to us devoted we were/are able to pass on the torch, not to burn down Dr. Frankensteins mansion, but to the misguided youth who quickly state that they are Goth without knowing the definition.
So save a kid you may see from not committing heresy by calling themselves a Goth and not understanding what it is to be one. That's my blog for today, it's 6:30am and the sun is coming up...
PS: And for the love of the Gods and the Godesses a Pentacle is more than just a fashion statement!
