Weeee! Very happy! I just saved about $400 on my plane ticket home for Christmas.... Oh, did I mention? I got time off to go home for Christmas!
The last couple days have been a bit of a downer.
I tried to apply for a new credit card the other day, and was rejected, not sure why. I can call the place about my credit report tomorrow and find out what the hell.
At the same time, I found out that due to no fault of mine as my credit card is joint with a family member, that the card was on hold. So when I tried to buy my ticket home, who's prices seemed to be getting higher every day that passed, it was rejected. I got the hold sorted out, but it was going to be today before I could use the card again.
So I get home from work after running out to get some wood for a project and a whole crap load of beer.
I go online to see if my credit card is working yet, it is!
I go to the website to book my flight.
Vancouver to Toronto on December 21st with return flight on the 29th $458 + taxes. My flight cost me $585 total. It was going to be $900 - $1000 when I was going to book it the other day and it failed.
So everything does happen for a reason.
Other things that have happened. Well, the girl and I went to Ikea one day, which involved a long skytrain ride and a bus ride. Then $50 to have our stuff delivered. I only bought a couple shelved that needed to go in on the delivery. She bought a new bed.
Now I've always wanted one of those nice, tall, all glass display cabinets they have there. The cheappest one is like $80. Some of the others are $130.
I didn't get one this trip, but I mentioned to the girl how I liked them.
So about a week later, I walk to the liquor store up the street from me and there, sitting on a front lawn just around the corner from the liquor store, is one of those cabinets with a note that said 'Help your self'
Some of the veneer seemed to be coming off the top and bottom and one of the shelved might have had a scratch in it.
I walked on by. I couldn't carry this thing the five blocks back to my house.
But as I left the store, I thought that if it was still there, I'd call my room mate and have him come get me in the truck.
It was still there so I stood by it to stake my claim. Lucky too, because a second after I called my roomy, a guy came up in a cab who had wanted it.
So I've got this cabinet. But the particle board parts had taken quite a bit of moisture and expanded like sponges. But for $14 I got a nice slab of laminated pine.
I Just need to have it cut in two, have a couple inches shaved off, then I need to drill out some holes and rout a channel for the glass, which is going to be tricky because I don't have anything I need to cut or rout.
I might be able to pick up an adjustable depth thingy that will allow me to use my Dremel clone as a router. But it could cost a bit. I might just buy a router. Though I'd need to come up with some more uses for it or I might just as well have bought one of these cabinets new from the start.
If I got the router and had the gumption I could make electric guitar bodies. I'm sure I'd have uses for it eventually. But hey, I did just save $400. Though I'd kind of like to use that to get my shotgun, or my PS3.
In other news. Crazy neighbours threw a party that went until 6:00am. There was a lot of yelling, screaming and apparent brawling. My room mate was up watching at like 3:30. He saw it. Two guys smashed through the seven foot tall, wooden fence, into our yard.
The roomies had talked to the neighbours on the other side about a previous party. They said that the old couple that owns the house are away in Italy, and that this was the grand daughter throwing wild parties. But no one seems to ever want to call the police. We're not sure why but since we're the newcomers, we don't really want to be the ones to do it.
Not much else happening. I love the people I work with, they were commenting yesterday on how it didn't take long for me to get comfortable enough with them to make all sorts of nasty, dirty, crude jokes.
Oh! We also had a couple copies of The Road Warrior come in for our movie rack, so I bought one! I love that movie so much. Makes me want to make another crazy punked out jacket like my old one. All Mad Max style.
I still need to get the first movie.
Mmmk, well I bet my beer is cold. So I'ma go start drinking. WOOOO! So happy about my plane ticket!
