What does it cost?
i've had enough of religion
empty promises in hollow smiles
"nice to meet you, come back soon"
"don't call us, we'll call you"
there has to be more
than a handshake at the door
i heard the sermon on love
"love your neighbor" and all that tripe
something didn't seem right
when no one loved me that night
still, i needed something more
than a "how you doin" at the door
what is it with religion today?
people too caught up in the "roles" they play
they forget about the lonely
they overlook the lost
they fill their pockets
no matter what the cost
we need religions today
that aren't caught up in the games they play
that don't forget the desperate
that reach out to the lost
that fill others needs
in spite of the cost
Words I penned about 10 years ago and only recently rediscovered in an old notebook.
