I have an elderly Aunt and Uncle that live in a trailer in Gulfport Mississippi less than 10 miles from the coast. They are stubborn old Southerners who have never evacuated in front of a hurricane before and probably didn't ahead of this one. You can say what you want to about that, but they are kind and good people. My family has not heard from them in over two days and I fear the worst. I also have many distant cousins in and around that area and my mom and I are anxiously awaiting some sort of word. I have more family in Poplarville Mississippi farther inland, but they are also without power and my aunt there is sick and on home oxygen.
I so very much want to help the people I see on TV, especially those in the New Orleans Convention Center, and I despirately want my family to be OK. If you pray to a god, please pray for these people.

I hope your family is okay. Just remember, if they are fine, they will still have no way to contact anyone. My grandma wasn't able to contact anyone until she got out far out of town. I really hope your family is okay. I know it's really hard not knowing.
Southerners are known for being stubborn, there's nothing wrong with that. It might get us into some bad situations sometimes, but we are also known to "get by" in all kinds of situations.
