OK, got school partly taken care of and the truck partly taken care of. I also thought of a few more things to add to my list.
'cept I can't think of them just this second.
I'm headed back up to the mountains tommorrow. Driving up the Feather River Canyon is the one time I actually enjoy being in a car. Every other time it's a chore. I fucking hate driving at all. I hate getting into the car just to go get smokes. Driving sucks. I hate cars too. That's why mine always looks like shit.
Hwy 70 up the Feather River is different though. I've been making that trip since I was in the womb. It's about an hour'n some drive up a realatively (but more so all the time) undeveloped streatch of road.
It's green along that road all year 'round. There are tiny waterfalls that fall over green and white rocks. Trees overhang the highway in some spots and at different times of the year there are wildflowers.
The Feather River is lively white and rappid in some spots and dark and smooth in others. The road winds and if you don't go so fast as to make yourself sick it can kind of rock you gently.
We used to sing stupid church songs on the way up that road, my sister and I.
Do Lord oh do Lord oh do ya 'member me
Do Lord oh do Lord oh do you 'memeber me
Look away beyond the blue
I got a home in glory land that outshines the sun
I got a home in glory land that outshines the sun
I got a home in glory land that outshines the sun
Look away beyond the blue
or
The Lord told Noa to build him an arky arky
Lord told Noa to build him an arky arky
BUILD IT OUT OF ANCIENT BARKY BARKY!
Children of the Lord
So rise and shine and give God your glory glory
Rise and shine and give God your glory glory
RISE AND SHINE AND GIVE GOD YOUR GLORY GLORY
Children of the Lord
We used to sing that 'ol shaving cream song too or if it was Christmas we'd sing every carol you could think of. We knew them all. I still sing to myself when I make the drive.
Can you hug a rock or a tree? Can you fall in love with an experience? That drive gives me the warm fuzzy every time I make it.
It's also the road to Grandma's house and in years past that meant the world's best fried chicken and bisquits. It still means fishing and hiking and for a little while still Grandma will be at the end.
