A couple of weeks ago I found Laputa at the post movie store, only now it's just called Castle in the Sky. I love this movie. If you have never seen a Miazaki film you should go and watch all of them. You will not be disapointed. As for Laputa, Spirited away was probably a better movie, but this one is my favorite animated film. It holds a lot of memories for me.
My dad and I used to go to sci-fi conventions when I was young. There was one called Time-con that used to come around the bay area in California every year. There was something called the Cartoon/Fantasy organization that sponsored a free animae room at the con. This was '84/'85/'86 before you could get animae at Hollywood video or Blockbuster. Seeing stuff like Megazone 23 or Lupin III blew my 12yo ass away. The first time that I saw Laputa in the CFO room remains one of my favorite movie experiences and I'm so glad that so many other people have been turned on by Miazaki's films that I can now go and rent it whenever I like.
