I've been thinking lately of trying to save up enough money to try and go somewhere in Europe. Unfortunately after some research it seems as though Europe is out of my fiscal reach. Still, I want to do something before I have to go to basic (which would be about six months or so from now), so I decided to scale back my search to the US. I have chosen New York as my destination. Never been to the North East and I've always wanted to go to New York.
That being said I think I've found flights that are more than reasonable (about $250 at the moment and hopefully not much more when I have the spare cash to make the purchase), and I'm looking at some hostels (Jazz on the Park/City and Hostel 104). The only thing that I have left besides budgeting what I'd need for food is finding things to do while I'm there. I know that I want to go to the Museum of Natural History, Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho, go to a real New York Deli, but I don't know too much about New York and I wanna see the things that make New York uniquely New York, not all of the really touristy things.
If you live in New York or have been there and can suggest anything that would be awesome!

Good Luck on the "going somewhere" experience.
Have fun!
