[UPDATED 11/05/06]: The Sunday Edition...
This week's Punk Rock Flashback starts with a clip from a movie that changed my whole life...The DECLINE of Western Civilization. Actually I heard the soundtrack first, since at first we were nervous about seeing the movie at the Surf theater downtown in HB, 'cuz the big kids were known for their insanity there, and that was just for surf flicks...this was punk rock.
So, my friends and I spent a lot of time huddled around a boom box with a bootleg cassette of the soundtrack, which hadn't been released, just recorded in a movie theatre I guess, and more than any one song, the audio to the opening scene burned a groove in my brain that exists to this day. In fact, when I found that this clip was up on YT and played it, my eyes watered and I started laughing as soon as I heard the word 'ATTENTION'.
Take a look. This is one of those movies that, even if you don't dig the music, the scene, the aesthetic, etc., you must BOW DOWN and VENERATE anyway. Failure to do so could be indication of a character flaw...though I think they have pills for that now...
...and some vintage Keith Morris, from the same. I think Circle Jerks played more shows in SoCal than any other band in history.
[UPDATE]
...LA poets turn out the punk rock.
...Pre-Rollins Flag, featuring the rockingest of drummers, Robo, later of Misfits fame, among others.
