Essay #2 - Explain your long-range goals-for school and career-and describe what specific skills and personal values you want to foster in yourself to achieve those ends.
One of the best traits that I inherited from my mother is her exceeding helpfulness, forgiveness, generosity, and my favorite--our resourcefulness. I grew up watching my mom be a type of social worker to my uncle who was born with brain damage. She filled out papers for him, suggested activities he could participate in, things he could work on, and she was very caring about it. This is one thing that I admire in my mom, but I also love about myself. I believe with proper schooling, I can reach out to help a greater community of people. I want a background in psychology so I can learn how the brain works and how I can understand the behaviors of others so that I can help them at a deeper level. I belive I have great insight because of the depressions I went through as a teen. I know what it feels like to be in that, but on the plus side I know a lot of ways to get out of that, by experience, and I can teach others my methods. I have a few careers in mind for the direction I want to head in. I have been to an alternative school with individual therapists and its literally a dream job for me. I would love to go into social work, helping people get their needs met. Possibly start a non-profit organization around case management. That would be my ultimate goal. Later in life (I have a whole life time ahead of me!), I want to study deeper into the different treatments for psychological disorders. Since age 12 I have had to take a large variety of medications, and I was always responsible about it, studied the effects on my brain, noted side effects and other factors. I think I could use this knowledge to help me in this study.
