When someone told me that a baby would change my life, I thought they meant change for the worse-with all the midnight feedings and crying. But my son, Jeremy, changed my life in ways I never had imagined. Growing up as a shy, isolated teen, I had no idea the person I was going to become.
At 17, my life was flipped upside down when I found out I was pregnant. I am a strong girl, but I wasn't sure if I could do it. At the time, I was very shy and deppressed. I had no self esteem, and my future was dim. I was so self conscious, I didn't know how in the world I could give birth in front of doctors. It didn't help that my relationship with my boyfreind was failing by the minute.
The pregnancy gave me an oppritunity to move out of my parents home and start my own life. Moving into my own apartment gave me a nice boost in life, but I still had a long ways to go. I kept working on my issues in therapy because I wanted to be the best parent I could to my child. Who I am today proves how well I did getting out on my own, and how well therapy really does work.
In june of 2001, I gave birth to my son Jeremy. Giving birth was a very beautiful thing and was just the beginning of a more confident outlook on life. It is tough raising Jeremy alone, but I have grown so much since those days of being an innocent, depressed teen. Being a mom and seeing my child grow up healthy in my care raised my self esteem incredibly. I had finally found something I was good at.
