Fight update:
The event was a little slow to get off the ground because they hadn't gotten the ring ready by the time people came in to see the fight. Eh, it's okay.
One of the fighters from my gym came in overweight and couldn't cut the last of it by the time he needed to. Another guy from our gym was also supposed to fight but his opponent broke his hand before the fight. So there were 8 fights and one exhibition.
I weighed in under my listed weight. I had been aiming for 118 and I weighed in at 116.5 mainly from drying out the day of. I had food, high calorie, low volume food like almond butter and whatnot during the day. I wish I had drank some liquid or had carbohydrates the days before the fight.
Anyway, I was nervous as fuck and the only girl fight was me and my opponent from Boston San Da. We were listed last. She came out hard and fast and I felt like I wasn't moving as well as I should have. Oh well.....so the first round was not my best but the second and third rounds I came back and pressured her and had to chase after her. She was taller than me so she wanted to keep me out and I didn't get to land as many low kicks on her. I threw less than her but I landed some super clean shots. I don't remember a lot of it but I remember nailing her with some hard crosses and it looked like they hurt her because she was really intent on avoiding them. I also got some knees in on her which I think helped.
I seriously thought I lost but the judges scored it 30-27 for her, then 29-28 for me and 29-28 for me. Holy fucking shit I was so thrilled.
I'm experiencing delayed onset muscle soreness and my jaw is a little fucked up but I'm feeling okay. So I think I'll fight again in June at the WKA Nationals in Virginia. I have soooo much to work on. A totally different approach to pre-fight eating (more carbs), get to my fight weight ahead of time so I can actually eat the carbs and so I can avoid the dry out, and improving all my fight techniques and increasing my strength and explosiveness through Gavin's strength and conditioning classes on Sundays.
It was cool. I'm glad I did it. I'm even happier that I won because I had a shitload of peeps out there rooting for me - the people from my gym and the people from my Krav Maga classes. Awesome.
