Nostalgia?
Yesterday I was listening to The Smiths "How Soon is Now?" I haven't heard it in a long time and it reminded me of a movie I saw on television in 1985. The movie was called "The Midnight Hour" and I remember the song playing during a party scene while people are being killed by the undead who were accidentally brought back to life by teenagers messing around with an old curse.
First of all, I admit to loving horror movies of all sorts. I do enjoy all sorts of entertainment but horror is one of my favorites and this movie was one of th e first ones that I really really remember seeing (aside from Poltergeist and an edited for network TV Exorcist and the Shining). This is not a gory movie by any means. Nor is it super scary. It was cheesy, campy (yes, there is a sort of "muscial" sequence where the undead sing and dance in one part), and poignant. But I love it. Shit, I'm even bidding for it on Ebay and willingly bidding wayyy more on it than I would on a normal movie. Simply because it brings me back to when I was a kid plus I loved the movie.
I think one of my favorite scenes was when one of the characters is in the basement with a vampire and she doesn't realize that she'll be killed. She's mulling over which wine to choose - red or white and the vampire says "red....definitely red." I love that scene and the slow-mo bite in the neck from behind and the struggle. It's hot. Oh, and it's probably kinky. Shit, that's probably why I like chicks - that scene. hehee. There's also a scene where this kid is looking for his dad in the dental office in their house. All of a sudden, his dad (who was killed earlier) attacks him with dental tools. It was a scary moment. Or when the one good undead person (a 50s era cheerleader) is driving through town with one of the guys who hasn't been killed and they pass the undead sheriff who has all zombified and his hands are on fire.
Ok, enough - off to see the Departed and to eat Thai food with the missus and her mom.
