I decided to crib a topic from the SG Hopefuls for today for a short blog.
"What Are Your Top 5 Songs of All Time? Songs you could listen to over and over again."
In no particular order:
1. Pearl Jam 'Alive'. Possibly the best song ever about being raped by your own mum. A three and a half minute Fuck You to people that walk away from consequence.
2. Paul Kelly 'Meet Me In The Middle Of The Air'. Sung entirely acapella, this beautiful song is what I want played at my funeral. Paul Kelly is a stone cold genius.
3. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 'The Mercy Seat'. Proof of Cave's storytelling brilliance, this is the thunderous tale of a man facing his end on the electric chair and looking forward to meeting God.
4. The Beatles 'You've Got to Hide Your Love Away'.
5. Bob Dylan 'Shelter from the Storm'
Honourable mentions go to Springsteen's 'Born in the USA' and 'I'm On Fire' ( a sexy, sexy song ), Bryan Ferry's 'Slave to Love', the White Stripes cover of 'Jolene' and Kate Bush 'Wuthering Heights'.
