thanks to Minty for my lovely xmas present (this here Sg membership), although i can't help but wonder if you're not trying to sabotage my presentation of friday by telling me about the message boards. 
my presentation (piggybacking on the archaeology hour) is about the Huasteca region of Mexico, the subject of my eventual dissertation. the Huastec Maya are a very understudied group, so my work will be gathering the basic information necessary to start tackling the bigger questions some of us archaeology types like to ask. as my professor wrote on my proposal draft, i shouldn't expect to do much "high-falutin'" archaeology for a while. i suspect my first field season will be survey, surface finds and shovel tests. looking at the different expressions of ideology and ritual in elite and non-elite households might have to wait.
time to get some spicy tofu!
