Wireless companies......
Im on a tangent today for sure! For all of these devices that are now becoming an ever more present REQUIREMENT in our lives the companies behind them all are chewing their teams to pieces in my opinion. Since 2002 I worked in the wireless industry having opened new stores and kiosks for 3 of the national wireless providers. I never worked for Tmobile so I have no idea how they do it but, every year since the companies have grown to unreal profits. Hell Verizon once led growth of wireless companies for 7 consecutive quarters even while iphone had its strong hold at ATT/Cingular.
My rant is based around money. Sure it takes hundreds of thousands to launch a tower in some out of the place location so when customers say 'just put up a tower' it isnt that damn easy. They dont realise the commitment from landline companies have in launching a new site. That money that they are getting each year to battle each other for biggest and baddest comes at the cost of ONE!!
Each and every employee on the sales floor or support. Each Feb-Mar time frame they bring out a new commission structure that is supposed to be more "equitable" for everyone and that only means the teams get fucked! In 2002 we got paid per phone per box, didnt matter what it was it was $12 per box.......I worked on a navy base where turnover was amazing. To do 350+ phones wasnt shit per person your commission checks were NICE!
Then the data devices came out. They added all these data and accessory requirements. Must have x amount of each on every phone. When all that shit started it was $10 per phone and 2 accessories. NOW today in 2013 its $50 per phone in data and 6 accessories WTF????
They made the sales person the expendable stepping stone and have blown threw soo many good people along the way that its become a progress shredding machine. Burn any sales person they can to make that next step forward. I have personally been out of wireless since 2010 and made it over to managing automotive shops versus wireless stores.
I couldnt continue to help them throw good people out the door. Even the big company I worked for got rid of all customer support reps and made everyone a sales rep and then made this damn survey the most important aspect of the employees existence but take away all the tools to allow them to be succesful on that survey.
Its makes me sick! SO when it comes time to upgrade that new fantastic new device for you keep your eyes open and look around. I saw it so prevelant when I upgraded to my note 2........SAD GUYS!
Wireless companies need to be about their front line people. Dont say it...DO IT!
