Well, I went and saw Matrix last night and I gotta say, it was relatively lame. Not awful or anything, but certainly not what I'd call a good movie. I doubt I'll see it again on the big screen. There were some awesome action moments and some neat ideas, but overall it seemed like gobbledygook. I could barely comprehend any of the dialogue/monologue scenes, and I consider myself a relatively intelligent and philosophical person. Some of it just sounded like they sat down with a thesaurus and used every big, intellectual sounding word they could find to replace ordinary words. Doing that alone doesn't work... as a writer it's a mistake I've made in the past. Intellectual types that use all those big neat words have an entirely different pattern of speech to go with their elevated vocabulary. I also felt like they didn't deliver on the expectations they laid out at the very end of the first film. Blah blah blah. Worth seeing in the theater, but I'm certainly not going to wait with baited breath for the next one.
Miami was pretty bummed, 'cause Matrix is essentially his favorite movie and he was totally let down and disappointed by the sequel. Oh well. Them's the breaks sometimes. I suppose that is one of the many reasons I'm a film-maker; so that I can make the kind of movies I want to see.
We're having a party/get-together this weekend at my lovely home, so if anyone out there ain't going to prom and might want to come by to drink and dance and be merry, drop me a line. My only concern is to try to maintain a gender balance. I hate it when there's waaaay too many guys hovering about like vultures.
I reserve that role for myself.

I haven't seen Matrix, but I'm loving all the bad comments I'm hearing about it. The lower my expectations, the more I'll enjoy it.
