1st Super Bowl
This is a photo from the very first Super Bowl, featuring the Green Bay Packers and The Kansas City Chiefs. Some fun facts about the first Super Bowl:
1. It wasn't officially called "Super Bowl I" until 2 years after it was played, though "Super Bowl" and "Supergame" were nick-names used at that time. The official name of the event was "First AFL-NFL World Championship Game."
2. The late owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, Lamar Hunt, first used the name "Super Bowl."
3. The price of a ticket was $12.00, which was considered to be much too expensive at the time.
4. It remains the only Super Bowl not to have been a sellout.
5. It was the only Super Bowl to be televised on 2 different TV networks (CBS and NBC).
6. All known broadcast tapes which recorded the game in its entirety were subsequently destroyed in a process of wiping, the reusing of videotape by taping over previous content, by both networks. Though, portions of the game still exist.
7. The halftime entertainment was the marching bands of the University of Arizona, Grambling State University, and according to at least one source, the University of Michigan.
8. The AFL's two-point conversion rule was not used in this Super Bowl.
9. The cost of a 30-second commercial was $42,000.
10. The date and location were determined just 6 weeks prior to the game. Los Angeles was awarded the game for January 15, 1967.
11. After a competitive first half score of 14-10, the final score was Packers 35, Chiefs 10.
