"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers. The
round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're
not fond of rules and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote
them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you
can't do is ignore them, because they change things. They push the human
race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world
are the ones who do."

If you don't like going out dancing (or doing drugs) you probably won't like this movie. but if you do and you haven't seen it, go out and rent it!
There is also a documentary by the same name, with the subtitle "the shockumentary" that I haven't seen but have heard is excellent.
Needless to say, I can't wait until Halloween (I've aleady started making my outfit). If you ain't gonna dress to impress you might as well stay home...hehehe.

"East Village USA"
December 3, 2004 - March 19, 2005
New Museum of Contemporary Art / Chelsea
556 West 22nd Street
East Village USA revisits the sprawling, renegade art scene that flourished in the East Village during the 1980s. Representing traditional media such as painting, sculpture and photography, while emphasizing the film, music and performance of the period, the exhibition will contain works by more than fifty visual artists, as well as numerous films, videos, listening stations and documentary materials. Covering the stylistic gamut from graffiti and punk expressionism to Neo-Geo and appropriation, East Village USA also examines the key exhibition sites and events that shaped the neighborhoods sensibility at the beginning of the 1980s: the Times Square Show, Colab, Fashion Moda, the Real Estate Show, Club 57, the Mudd Club and the Pyramid. Additional material will outline an historical context for the East Village as a cultural outpost, beginning with the Beat and co-op gallery scene of the 1950s, and continuing through the counter-cultural era as represented by the impact of the Fillmore East, La Mama, Anthology Film Archives, St. Marks Poetry Project and Millenium Cinema in the 1960s and 1970s. East Village USA is curated by Dan Cameron.
Generous support for the exhibition has been provided by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation. Additional support is provided by the Producers Council of the New Museum.
While awaiting the 2006 opening of our new state-of-the-art facility at 235 Bowery, the New Museum of Contemporary Art will be operating an interim exhibition space on the ground floor of the Chelsea Art Museum, 556 West 22nd Street (at 11th Avenue) beginning September 18, 2004.
